'Ilkal' weaving began in the 8th Century AD. Weaving of the sarees is a part of households in Bagalkot and female workers are actively engaged in the same.
Ilkal Saree is the only saree where the body warp and pallu warp are joined with a series of loops. The technique is unique to the weavers there. The woven patterns in the "Pallav" or "Pallu" are known as 'Tope Teni' or Temple effect as it resembles temple architecture.
This indigo coloured saree is handwoven in cotton silk using traditional top teni technique by master artisans.
