Brass Metal Decor of Nandi Bull in Dokra Art from Bastar with Jaali Design
Dokra (or Dhokra) is a lost-wax technique of metal casting and named after a nomadic tribe of eastern India – Dokras. The Dokras were dependent on their immediate surroundings and Dokra art was well suited to such a lifestyle as all materials could be sourced from wherever they went - wax and firewood could be sourced from the local forests, clay from a nearby riverbed and a kiln could be prepared by digging a hole in the ground.
Dokra Art if one of the oldest art forms dating back to the Indus valley civilisation and the process followed is almost similar. This stunning Nandi with jaali design has been handcrafted by an award winning artisan in Bastar region and is considered to be auspicious and bring good luck.
