Phulia Handloom Saree with Blouse in Cotton Linen 2
The name Phulia (also known as Fulia) was coined by Narosingha Ojha, an ancestor of Kabi Krittibas Ojha who is credited with having written the Bengali Ramayan. Many of the weavers of Phulia are ancestors of the famous muslin weavers, post partition in 1947 and the freedom war of Bangladesh in 1971, many of the weavers came to West Bengal as refugees and settled in Phulia of Nadia district. The ‘taant’ or handloom sarees definitely stand out with their unique and beautiful color combinations and patterns, but it’s the comfort one experiences that draws you to the sarees.
The fall of these sarees and distinctive style of weaving are a testament to the prowess of their ancestors and rich heritage.
